Plant Information

Used in incense and perfumes for thousands of year, Frankincense comes from the Bowellia tree, found in cool areas of the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and India, has a sap that oozes down the bark, and harvested for its healing properties and wonderful woodsy, slightly lemony aroma. It is also known to have many health benefits due to its chemical makeup that are used to heal skin and combat acne, cure coughs, aid in digestion, help with ulcers, kill germs and bacteria, improve memory, fight fatigue, and boost immunity. The valuable Boswellia tree has potent extracts that include terpenes and boswellic acids known to have strong anti-inflammatory properties that are highly protective over healthy cells. Inhibiting leukocyte elastase and degrading glycosaminoglycans, Frankincense is known to be good for inflammation and rhumatism. The Boswellia inhibits 5-lipoxygenase and prevents the release of leukotrienes aiding in the healing of ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, bronchitis and sinusitis and when inhaled known to combat asthma.

A gift fit enough for a King, Frankincense comes from the term “fran ences” means, “incense" in old French. The aroma is said to be grounding, relieve stress and negative emotions. Egyptians were known to use it in ceremonies as it is not only calming on the nerves, but seems to work wonders on the skin.
