Basil is a widely used herb steeped in lore across civilizations from all ages. Hailing from a genus of highly aromatic plants, the term Ocimum is rooted in the Greek word ozo, which means "to smell". Medical practitioners and medicine people of ancient societies used the many parts of the plant to treat a myriad of illnesses. It has an uplifting, fresh scent and that is often used to settle the nerves and clear the mind.
