Plant Information
Cedar Atlas has recorded uses from ancient history of an extensive range of purposes, including cosmetics, incense, and medicine. With a woody and rich aroma, cedar essential oil is said to offer a variety of benefits for physical and mental health. The oil is distilled from the foliage of the tree as well as the root, parts of the wood and even the bark. The natural chemical compounds of Cedarwood essential oil encourage the release of serotonin in the brain.
There is substantial history on how early humans put cedarwood essential oil to a multitude of uses, taking full advantage of its antiseptic and sedative effects, among many others. Ancient Egyptians used amounts of it to embalm their dead, with the proof of the strength of cedarwood oil’s insecticidal and antimicrobial properties in the well-preserved state of Egyptian mummies. Cedarwood essential oil’s known for it's ability to calm the body while rejuvenating the mind, and has been used in meditative and purifying ceremonies not only throughout history but also across religions and spiritual practices.
Usages
For cuts and wounds, add a few drops to an antiseptic cream or mix it with equal parts water. Apply the resulting mixture over the wound or dab using cotton and repeat as often as needed.
To kill fleas on a pet, mix the oil with distilled water and pour it into a spray bottle. Then comb the dog’s hair (against the grain) in order to reveal the skin. Keep spraying the mist onto your pet’s hair and skin and brush repeatedly with a fine comb brush.
Safety
Always test for skin sensitivity prior to widespread use and use on the feet when possible. Excessive use of any oil can lead to skin sensitization. Keep out of eyes, ears, or nose. Not all oils are created equal, so test brands carefully, and never use an oil in a way not recommended. Our oil is therapeutic grade, however we do not recommend any oils be used internally unless on the advice of a medical professional.
