Plant Information

Ginger essential oils nickname is, “The Oil of Empowerment”, known to have stimulating and warming effects that are said to reduce the feelings of stress, sadness, anxiety, lethargy, agitation, dizziness, fatigue and inspire confidence. The powerful Ginger contains Gingerol, a constituent known for it anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making this oil very popular. Ginger has leafy stems with yellowish green flowers. The root, used commonly in Indian curry dishes and teas, is pale yellow in color, with a pungent, spicy smell and a warm, spicy bite, and slight sweetness. Native to warmer parts of Asia, such as China, Japan, and India, South American and Africa, is also now grown in the Middle East and used medicinally, cosmetically, and with food and beverages. Commonly used in Chinese medicine to, “strengthen the heart and restore the flow of stagnant chi”, it was also used to restore vital health as it operates as a tonic.

Gingers main chemical components work as a laxative, anti-gas, and antacid medications. Used for various types of upset stomach including motion sickness, or morning sickness as it relieves irritation in the gastrointestinal tract as it stimulates saliva and bile. Ginger is said to help with colic, gas, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea as well as loss of appetite. When added to a carrier oil some have said it works to aid in the healing of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), osteoarthritis, and menstrual pain. 247 people with osteoarthritis of the knee said ginger lessened the pain and required less pain medication as a result. The fresh juice of ginger has been used to treat burn and applied to skin to relieve pain, heal and prevent insect bites. The invigorating sweet aroma of ginger has long been used as for fragrance in soaps and cosmetics. Being a thermogenic food, ginger may raise the temperature of the body and help boost metabolism. Ginger can help prevent chills, fever, and excessive sweat, as it contains chromium, magnesium and zinc.

Usages

Dilute in a carrier oil, add to food, or put in a bottle and spray Ginger, mix it with woodsy, citrusy and minty oils for massage, put a drop in water or food.

Use Ginger cosmetically as it is a Tonic, Stimulant, Warming, Anti-Inflammatory, and Firming agent.

Safety
