Plant Information

Bay essential oil is obtained from the bay tree, an evergreen tree that originated in the West Indies, but is now harvested mostly in Morocco and Spain. Common names include bay rum tree, West Indian bay tree, and ciliment. In the early 20th century 'Bay Rum' was a type of formerly very popular cologne and hair tonic historically made by distilling the oil using rum and water, hence the common name of the plant.

Safety

Always test for skin sensitivity prior to widespread use and use on the feet when possible. Excessive use of any oil can lead to skin sensitization. Keep out of eyes, ears, or nose.
