These precious wood notes are similar to that of sandalwood or agarwood. There are 150 aromatic molecules found in vetiver and still unidentifiable ones. They say this oil, “cannot be pigeonholed into a stable set of characteristics”, and really takes a front seat in perfumes.
Vetivert essential oil comes from the root of this tropical grass that will grow anywhere temperatures permit, mainly in the tropics and semi tropics, Mediterranean climates, and in arid regions. In warmer climates, many aspects of Vetiver make it an exceptional erosion control plant because of its has roots that bind to the soil, and therefore cannot easily dislodge. This allows the grass roots to stabilize hedges for stream banks and terraces, and it protects soil from sheet erosion. Vetiver's roots grow nearly all straight downward, 7 feet to 13 feet, which is deeper than some tree roots. It has been used to enforce railway cuttings/embankments in challenging situations so as to prevent mudslides and rock falls. This special oil is said to balance emotional equilibrium, cleanse the mind and enhance focus and concentration. Often used for its therapeutic properties, its sweet, rooty aroma is known to be deeply relaxing and said to be reminiscent of the woods and marshlands.
